Head of Sales (Contract / Interim)

Remote (UK)

A high-tech engineering business with world-leading methane detection technology is now at a turning point. The product works, the trials are successful, and the interest is real; but the next step is conversion.


We’re looking for a Head of Sales to turn paid trials into commercial deployments, driving six-figure deals with enterprise clients across oil and gas, energy, utilities, wastewater, and biogas sectors.


This is about momentum: taking what’s already in play and getting deals over the line.


The Role

You’ll be brought in to create immediate commercial impact, driving progress through complex enterprise sales cycles and establishing the path from pilot to scale.


You’ll focus on:

* Moving existing opportunities from demo and paid trial to first purchase and multi-unit rollout.
* Managing relationships with major enterprise customers; typically utilities, downstream oil and gas, and large energy firms.
* Structuring deals that blend capital sales with recurring service or cloud revenue.
* Adapting commercial models (capex vs opex) to suit customer funding approaches.
* Building executive-level trust and setting up for long-term expansion.
* Installing sales discipline – pipeline clarity, forecasting, cadence, and progress reporting.


Typical deal values range from £50,000–£100,000 for initial units, expanding to £250,000–£500,000+ as deployments scale.


What We’re Looking For

* Proven experience in enterprise-level, consultative sales within downstream oil and gas, utilities, waste water, or energy sectors.
* A track record of converting trials into scalable commercial contracts.
* A pragmatic, hands-on operator who can build momentum fast and work with existing pipelines.
* Comfortable engaging at senior levels in large organisations and managing multi-stakeholder deals.
* Experience building commercial traction in early adoption markets.
* A “get stuck in” attitude - someone who’s taken a product from zero to meaningful revenue before.
