Position Overview
Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Early Modern Global History to teach in the Department of History and Classics for one year from 1 September 2026. This fixed‑term post provides cover for a Lecturer who is taking up a Leverhulme Research Fellowship in 2026/27.
Responsibilities
* Teach undergraduate modules: early modern Gateway (first‑year), Tudor Monarchy (second year, Term 1), Spanish and Portuguese Empires in the Americas (second year, Term 2), and may support the introductory module “History in the Making.”
* Develop teaching materials and engage creatively with students.
* Contribute to departmental administration, recruitment and pastoral support.
* Advance ongoing research and develop publications for the department’s REF submission.
Qualifications
* PhD in a relevant field by the start date.
* Developing publication record in Early Modern history.
* Experience teaching at undergraduate level and ability to design teaching materials.
* Willingness to contribute to recruitment and provide pastoral support.
Location and Department
The post is based in Egham, Surrey, on the University’s leafy campus near Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. The Department of History and Classics comprises 45 full‑time academic staff and is ranked 14th nationally in The Guardian’s University Guide.
