Mechanical Technician – Packaging


Location: On‑site (UK)

Engagement: 12‑Month Contract (Due to Internal Secondment)

Shift Pattern: 2 Days, 2 Nights, 4 Off

Department: Engineering (Secondary Packaging)

Reports To: Engineering Supervisor


About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to join our Pharmaceutical client's Secondary Packaging team following internal movements. This is a contract role with potential for permanency.


This role is ideal for someone with a mechanical engineering background, packaging machinery experience, and exposure to either pharmaceutical or FMCG environments (pharma ideal). Most of the work is mechanical, supporting critical packaging line equipment including cartoners, labellers, inspection systems, and blister packing machines.


Key Responsibilities


Maintenance & Engineering Support

* Perform a wide range of planned and reactive mechanical maintenance supporting operational teams.
* Deliver engineering support for planned/unplanned maintenance activities and execute routine work safely and efficiently.
* Identify and resolve recurring or multi‑cause mechanical issues.
1. Technical & Experience Requirements

* 1+ year of post‑education experience in mechanical engineering.
* Strong mechanical background, ideally within pharmaceutical packaging or FMCG.
* Hands‑on experience with cartoners, labellers, inspection machines, and blister packaging equipment.
* Understanding of working within a regulated production environment (GMP experience preferred).
* Comfortable working a rotating 2D/2N/4O shift pattern.
* Suitable for contingent workers who have not worked at the site previously (fresh candidates required).


Continuous Improvement & Team Support

* Promote and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Engage in training, coaching, and development activities; maintain accurate training records.
* Work collaboratively within the engineering team to achieve departmental objectives.


Requirements


Technical & Experience Requirements

* 1+ year of post‑education experience in mechanical engineering.
* Strong mechanical background, ideally within pharmaceutical packaging or FMCG.
* Hands‑on experience with cartoners, labellers, inspection machines, and blister packaging equipment.
* Understanding of working within a regulated production environment (GMP experience preferred).
* Comfortable working a rotating 2D/2N/4O shift pattern.

Education & Skills

* Engineering Apprenticeship (required); HNC/HND preferred.
* Strong numeracy, literacy, and attention to detail.
* Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work under pressure.
* Working knowledge of CMMS systems and ability to use or coach basic functions.


Team Structure

* Part of the Secondary Packaging Engineering Team, working alongside four additional technicians
