We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer to join our design team. The ideal candidate will lead the design and development of fabricated parts and assemblies, manage work packages, and oversee the configuration of each numbered part. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, proficiency in SolidWorks, and effective leadership of small teams. Excellent communication skills are essential, as this role involves engaging with individuals at all levels across the company. This role will suit a dynamic, technically minded person who is ready to take their experience to the next level and is looking step up onto the management ladder within their next role.
Summit Systems Job Description
Key Tasks:
Lead the design and development of fabricated parts, to be manufactured by our in-house fabrications team.
Manage and oversee packages of work, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
Develop and maintain product configurations and ensure they meet industry standards and client
requirements.
Utilise SolidWorks to create detailed designs and technical drawings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
Conduct design reviews and implement improvements based on feedback.
Stay updated with industry trends and advancements to incorporate best practices into design processes.
Report to the Technical Manager on a day-to-day basis, with regular reporting to the Engineering Director and the board.
Convey and present ideas and designs effectively to business management using a full range of media, including sketches, line drawings, solid models, and PowerPoint presentations.
Ensure designs are cost-effective and optimized for manufacturing processes.
Support the fabrication and manufacturing of products in steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in the design and development of mechanical systems and components.
Proficiency in SolidWorks and other relevant design software.
Strong project management skills with experience in managing packages of work.
Excellent understanding of product configurations and industry standards.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor small teams.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Dynamic, enthusiastic, and able to convey and present ideas effectively using various media.
Understanding of cost-effective manufacturing and design for manufacture principles.
