Department: Real Estate - Portfolio Management
Employment Type: Fixed Term Contract
Location: Glasgow
Reporting To: Clare Hartley
Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee to join our busy real estate team based in Glasgow. The role would be a two year placement in our Scottish real estate team, primarily focused on telecoms, with an opportunity to work with real estate colleagues across the UK on nationwide projects.
Our real estate department covers every aspect of transactional and contentious commercial real estate work, including in particular telecoms, development, investment, asset management, construction and landlord/tenant work. Clients include telecoms operators, property management and development companies, house builders, health trusts and government bodies (local and central), owner-occupiers and institutions, both in the UK and overseas.
With offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow we are continuing to grow our Scottish offering, with seamless cross-border services for our clients in the UK backed by full national and international support from across the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Our Trainees tell us that they enjoy the firm's collaborative working environment which reflects our open door policy and cultural principles of being supportive, creative, determined, and clear. There are also many opportunities to network with other Trainees and other colleagues across our business, and to be part of wider firm projects and initiatives.
The work expected of the role will largely be geared towards Scottish real estate telecoms work (mainly transactional with an opportunity to work in litigation as well). It would mainly involve dealing with landlord/tenant asset management work, including drafting and negotiating the full suite of lease documents with the team's support and managing client reporting. Some knowledge of Scottish property law and/or experience of working in a real estate environment, particularly any experience in telecoms work would be helpful but is not essential. A genuine interest in real estate, and a desire to work as part of a team with a client-facing role, is though expected.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
We are looking for someone with a minimum 2:1 degree who has energy and ambition to make the most of their traineeship. In addition:
* Be highly organised and a confident communicator with an outstanding eye for detail
* Be interested in and willing to learn real estate law as required for the role
* Be IT literate, with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office and previous knowledge or experience of a case management system would be an advantage but not essential
* Willingness to follow a process driven system, working within set parameters
* Be team orientated, with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team
* Have an ability to adopt a commercial perspective
* Have some experience in working in a law firm either in a paralegal or administrative capacity and be looking for the next step to secure qualification
