Achieve change for our most vulnerable children and families through direct relationship-based social work practice. We have supported our staff to understand the systemic theoretical frameworks and models underpinning our interventions, providing access to the right tools, equipment, resources, supervision, training, and learning opportunities to be strong practitioners.


Private Fostering

Private Fostering occurs when a child or young person under 16 (or 18 if disabled) lives with someone who is not a close relative for more than 28 days. This is a private arrangement between a parent and a private foster carer. Once notified, the team visits the arrangement, conducts safeguarding checks, and assesses to ensure the child's safety and that the foster carers can provide an adequate standard of care. The team continues to visit regularly, offering ongoing advice and support. The Private Fostering Team is based in County Hall Chelmsford and offers a countywide service.


The Role

1. Completing visits and assessments within required timescales.
2. Providing support and guidance to private foster carers through regular visits and contacts, including at least one unannounced visit annually.
3. Engaging in direct work with children and young people.
4. Monitoring and reviewing the care provided by private foster carers to ensure safety and adherence to standards.
5. Maintaining communication with parents, keeping them informed.
6. Working within relevant legislation and standards, including the Children Act 1989 and 2004, and Private Fostering National Minimum Standards.


Accountabilities

* Partnering with professionals to meet children's assessed needs.
* Attending Child in Need or Child Protection meetings as required.
* Participating in awareness raising activities about private fostering.
* Attending team meetings and supervision sessions.
* Completing assessments and paperwork within deadlines.
* Ensuring high standards of written work and reports.
* Adhering to all Essex County Council policies and health and safety guidelines.
* Performing any other reasonable tasks within the role.


Qualifications and Experience

* Diploma in Social Work, CQSW, CSS, or equivalent.
* Registered with Social Work England.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* IT and Word Processing skills.
* Experience at an experienced social worker level, particularly in Children Services.
* Preferably experience in Child Protection, including investigations and assessments.
* Experience working with children of all ages and collaborating with parents and carers.
* Experience in planning activities for children, young people, and parents.
* Knowledge of legal processes related to Child Care and Court work.
* Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance.
* Understanding of child development theories and their practical application.


Additional Information

This is a fixed-term, full-time role offering £37,185 to £50,081 per annum, based in Chelmsford. The role requires mobility across Essex, including travel and transportation of service users.
