The Role
As a teacher of mathematics/numeracy you will play a key role in shaping the department’s vision, developing an engaging and challenging curriculum and fostering a love of maths among students of all ages and abilities. You will join a highly successful department of passionate teachers, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, while contributing to the wider development of mathematics in real-world context. You will support the Strategic Lead of Mathematics and Numeracy Area of Learning Experience in their role to secure excellent pupil outcomes.
Teacher of Mathematics Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver engaging mathematics lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 aligned with the Curriculum for Wales.
2. Promote the four purposes of the curriculum, nurturing ambitious, capable learners and enterprising, creative contributors.
3. Foster learners’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and fluency across a range of contexts.
4. Assess and monitor pupil progress, using a variety of assessments for learning strategies to inform next steps.
5. Provide a supportive, inclusive, and appropriately challenging classroom environment.
6. Collaborate with colleagues within the Mathematics and Numeracy AoLE and contribute to curriculum planning and innovation.
The Ideal Candidate for Mathematics Teacher Will Have:
7. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
8. Strong knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales, particularly the Mathematics and Numeracy AoLE and the Principles of Progression.
9. Ability to teach and assess across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and potentially KS5).
10. Passionate about mathematics with a strong understanding of STEM and the Area of Learning Experience.
11. Ability to inspire and motivate young people to develop their numeracy, reasoning, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
12. Strong classroom management and communication skills.
