We are recruiting for a Chargehand for our Cut and Prep Shop. Role Overview The Chargehand will support the Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the Cut & Prep shop. They will coordinate work packs, organise materials, and ensure smooth workflow between profiling, cutting, and material movement, maintaining efficiency, safety, and quality throughout the process. Key Responsibilities Assist the Supervisor in overseeing daily operations within the Cut & Prep shop. Issue and collect cutting sheets for profilers and saw operators. Work closely with the materials team to plan, allocate, and organise incoming steel. Control, issue, update, and collate work packs, providing accurate feedback to the Supervisor. To become efficient with understanding and inputting within the BOM. Organise materials from cutting machines, determining whether items go forward for fabrication, edge breaking or are sent out for forming. Marshal assemblies, ensuring components are stored in the correct zones for fabrication, ensuring different assemblies are kept apart and are clearly identified. Direct forklift operators to move items efficiently and safely, keeping the shop floor organised and clear. Maintain accurate records of material flow and work progress. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and housekeeping standards at all times. Support and coordinate with shop floor teams to resolve issues and minimise downtime. Skills and Experience Proven experience within a steel fabrication / cut & prep environment. Strong organisational and planning skills with attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret cutting sheets, drawings, and work packs. Effective communication skills to liaise with Supervisors, Materials team, and Shop floor staff. Experience in directing material handling (e.g., forklifts, cranes). Good understanding of shop floor workflows and fabrication sequencing. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure. Hours of Work Monday- Friday 0700 - 1500 hrs Rates of Pay - 2025 Basic Dayshift-£23.34 OT1-£35.01 OT2-£46.68 Benefits 23 days holiday plus statutory (rising to 25 plus statutory with service).
