Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time Primary Industry: Engineering Secondary Industry: Engineering Salary: £45,000 - £52,000 per annum Job Description The Quantity Surveyor undertakes the financial and contractual management of engineering projects, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget and on time. This role involves preparing detailed cost plans, monitoring expenditure, managing procurement processes, and providing accurate financial reports throughout the project lifecycle. The Quantity Surveyor collaborates closely with project teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain detailed cost estimates and budgets for engineering projects. Manage tender processes, including the preparation of tender documents and evaluation of bids. Monitor project expenditure and cash flow forecasts to ensure alignment with budgets. Negotiate contracts and variations with suppliers, subcontractors and clients to secure favourable terms. Analyse and assess subcontractor valuations and payment applications. Provide timely and accurate financial reports and cost advice to project managers and senior management. Identify potential risks and cost control issues, proposing mitigation strategies. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and company policies. Maintain thorough records of all contractual and financial documentation. Support dispute resolution processes where required. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support successful project delivery. Required Qualifications Chartered membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or equivalent professional body. Recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction, Civil Engineering or related discipline. Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a closely related field. Experience Minimum of three years' experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the engineering or construction sector. Proven experience managing financial aspects of medium to large scale engineering projects. Experience in contract administration, procurement and commercial management. Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of construction and engineering contract forms and procurement routes. Proficient in cost planning, budgeting and financial reporting. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Competent in the use of relevant software, such as cost management packages and Microsoft Office suite. Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively. Preferred Qualifications Experience working within the engineering sector, particularly civil or mechanical engineering projects. Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to construction and engineering. Familiarity with environmental and sustainability standards affecting project delivery. Additional training or certification in project management. Working Conditions Primarily office-based work with frequent visits to project sites in and around Bristol and the South West region. Full-time working hours, typically Monday to Friday. Occasional requirement to work outside normal hours to meet project deadlines.
