Director of HSE & Compliance

Hybrid working (3 days at sites, 2 days at home)

Up to £95,000


Role Summary:


This role is responsible for leading the organisation’s improvement strategy across client portfolios, service lines, and occupied offices. The post holder will guide teams and senior stakeholders in increasing levels of risk management understanding across the business.


The role requires stewardship and strategic ownership of processes, while advising the Head of Risk and Assurance on risks, mitigations, and control acceptance requirements to help future-proof the business.


An experienced trainer and facilitator with a background in property management and consultancy, the role will utilise these skills to enhance competency and awareness across the organisation through structured training programmes. Service delivery and budget targets must be met; therefore, experience in consultancy and P&L management is advantageous. Experience in residential compliance and fire safety would also be beneficial.


The role will lead Health, Safety and Environmental management systems across the managed buildings portfolio and occupied offices, including coordination with other business divisions. A key focus will be identifying root causes and enabling demonstrable continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities:


* Lead and assure high-quality HSE risk assessment, compliance, and management systems across the organisation and client portfolios.
* Embed a strong safety culture, supporting senior leaders with risk management strategy, governance, and communication.
* Provide strategic oversight of operational and consultancy HSE risk, including business continuity, quality, and income-to-budget delivery.
* Act as the organisation’s HSE subject matter expert, advising Boards, engaging regulators and key stakeholders, and monitoring industry trends.
* Drive continual improvement through incident investigation, performance reporting, contractor management, and compliance assurance.
* Develop and deliver training, management information, and dashboards to improve competence, visibility, and decision-making.
* Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and professional standards, including ISO frameworks, and oversee resolution of non-conformities.

Essential requirements :


* Lead or Internal Auditor qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
* Practitioner-level membership of relevant environmental and occupational safety professional bodies.
* National Diploma or Level 6/7 equivalent qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or Risk Management.
* Proven experience implementing a positive safety culture within a real estate, property management, or total facilities management environment.
* Proven experience producing and managing reports and data for Directors, Boards, and Clients.
* Proven experience developing management system processes and procedures compliant with ISO standards, including 14001, 45001, 9001, and 22301.
