This position could be an opportunity for an internal secondment, with approval from your current line manager. The Network team manage a combination of hosted, wired and wireless, and high performance networks that are used to deliver IT services. The team monitor the performance and availability of the network environment to ensure it is able to meet user demand and reduce the risk of unplanned outages. The role We are looking for a Network Engineer to join our team on a fixed term basis to cover a period of secondment. The main purpose of the role is to provide a customer focussed enquiry, administrative and support service to the Network team including assisting in the monitoring and maintaining the University’s IT network services and associated hardware and software, to ensure the uninterrupted provisioning of operational services. You will assist in the routine monitoring and analysis of network performance including tuning, load balancing, and preventative maintenance to ensure the network performance is able to meet user demand to reduce the risk of unplanned outages and will act as a point of contact for network services support, encouraging users to follow standard procedures and processes, and promote self-service opportunities. As part of the role you will implement a varied range of standard technical and operational support including investigating sometimes complex and non-routine network problems, installing upgrades and patches, back-up and recovery, and managing access to the network. You will also assist in the identification of risks and opportunities for improvement of network services, support new ways of working, training others as required. About you We are looking for someone who has: • Experience of working on projects or network development initiatives. • Experience of working within teams, evidencing ability in building beneficial working relationships • Demonstrated experience in applying standard methods of analysis, recognising trends and patterns, and highlighting issues and opportunities. • Proactive personal and professional development including completion of mandatory training, skills courses and specialist training. • Experience of providing advice and guidance for others on specific tasks, issues or activities; and delivering in house training where appropriate.
