Offer description

We are an established community support organisation delivering services to children, young people and families across Lambeth and Bromley. We support those facing relationship breakdown, behavioural issues, financial hardship, housing instability, isolation, mental health difficulties, domestic abuse, substance misuse, school attendance problems and life transitions. Our mission: help families build resilience, strengthen relationships, learn skills, overcome barriers and create safe, stable homes where children thrive. We prioritise keeping families together where safe, empowering parents/carers and connecting people to local support. We follow strict safeguarding standards, value equality/diversity and work in partnership with authorities, social care, health, schools and voluntary agencies to deliver joined‑up, person‑centred support with lasting impact.

Role Overview
As a Family Support Worker, you will provide practical, emotional and bespoke support in family homes and community settings across both boroughs. Working with families during difficulty, change or crisis, you offer non‑judgemental, compassionate, goal‑orientated help tailored to individual needs. You will empower families to recognise strengths, identify areas for growth and take positive steps to improve wellbeing, relationships and daily life. You will act as a key link between families and professionals — social workers, health visitors, GPs, teachers, early years and youth workers — ensuring coordinated effective support. You will contribute to meetings, reviews and multi‑agency discussions, sharing observations and recommendations to ensure plans are realistic, achievable and focused on good outcomes. This varied role covers everyday parenting challenges through to complex long‑term needs requiring consistent, sensitive support.

Key Responsibilities
• Support parents/carers in positive parenting, building warm relationships, improving communication and emotional bonds.
• Guide on boundaries, behaviour management and positive discipline to reduce conflict and create calm, predictable homes.
• Help establish healthy routines: meals, sleep, personal care, homework, play and family time for stability during change.
• Financial guidance: budgeting, money management, bills/benefits, debt reduction and accessing resources to ease financial stress.
• Targeted support for housing, separation/loss, school attendance, mental health/wellbeing, education/employment access, forms/appointments, and building community links to reduce isolation.
• Complete strengths‑based assessments of needs, risks and capabilities; co‑produce measurable support plans with families.
• Monitor progress, review and adapt plans to keep support relevant and outcome‑focused.
• Maintain accurate, timely, confidential records, case notes and reports for internal and partner communication.
• Build strong professional relationships, share information appropriately and work effectively in multi‑agency teams.
• Attend and contribute to TAF meetings, core groups, child protection conferences and reviews – representing families’ views.
• Refer to specialist services (mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse, family therapy) as required.
• Uphold safeguarding/welfare: follow statutory guidance and policies, recognise concerns, act and report risks immediately.
• Travel extensively across Lambeth/Bromley; manage own caseload/workload independently whilst staying connected to the team.
• Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, respecting all cultures, backgrounds and family structures.
