Role: Fulfilment Manager
Career Step Level: Step level 4
Location: Blyth, Worksop
A bit about the role
The Fulfilment Manager is the heartbeat of our order journey – making sure every single box leaves our kitchen just the way our customers expect. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our warehouse and production teams, bringing our subscription boxes and retail packs to life.
Your mission is to make sure every box is built with care, accurate and complete, and gets out the door on time. To do this, you’ll lead from the front – inspiring, supporting, and guiding a large, multi-shift team. With your knack for problem-solving and forward-thinking, you’ll keep things running smoothly today while setting us up for an even better tomorrow.
In this role, you can expect to…
* Oversee the complete fulfilment process: from receiving and managing stock, through picking, packing, and dispatching subscription boxes.
* Lead, motivate, and engage a team of approximately 100 squad members working across 3 shifts, ensuring high performance, strong morale, and a positive working culture.
* Use data-driven monitoring and KPI analysis to identify trends, uncover inefficiencies, and implement continuous improvement actions across fulfilment operations.
* Role model excellent problem-solving skills and forward-thinking approaches to anticipate challenges and implement proactive solutions.
* Ensure orders are packed and delivered on time and in full, leveraging robust processes for monitoring stock and meeting delivery schedules.
* Manage warehouse staff performance, training, and development to maintain exceptional fulfilment accuracy and efficiency.
* Implement and maintain fulfilment & warehouse management systems (WMS) and stock tracking tools to optimise operations and reduce errors.
* Lead quality control initiatives to ensure each box meets branding, customer experience, and service standards.
* Coordinate with procurement, supply chain, and logistics teams to align replenishment, packaging supplies, and carrier schedules.
* Monitor KPIs—such as on-time in full delivery rate, order accuracy, and packing efficiency—and report regularly to senior management.
* Identify and drive improvements in fulfilment workflows, resource requirements, layout, packaging processes, and shipping practices to boost efficiency and cost control.
* Proven experience managing large-scale operational teams
* Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire large teams across multiple shifts, with a track record of driving engagement and performance.
* Skilled in stock and warehouse management systems, with the ability to use data to drive continuous process improvement.
* Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate challenges and implement proactive solutions.
* Familiarity with subscription fulfilment logistics and associated challenges like staggered shipping schedules, quality control, and customer-brand experience.
* Loves dogs (naturally)
A bit about Butternut
At Butternut, the mission is to deliver health and happiness to dogs and their humans all over the world. In order to do just that, we need a team of forward-thinking, driven people who love dogs as much as we do. And we need quite a big kitchen too. Which is precisely why we have built one.
Located in Doncaster, Rudie's Kitchen and Ace's Pantry are where all the magic happens, so to speak. It's where the tasty Butternut meals and treats will be gently cooked, using human-quality ingredients because, the way we see it, we wouldn't serve food to dogs that we wouldn't be happy to eat ourselves. At Butternut, we believe dogs deserve better, and if that's something you think too, we want to hear from you.
Butternut has come a long way since Kev & Dave (co-founders) hand-delivered the first Butternut Box, and we are now looking for brilliant people to join the team for this next part of the story.
