We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital. The post involves working across both inpatient and community settings within our locality.
Our Stroke Therapy Team operates within a culture of a strong, supportive multidisciplinary team which includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach, working collaboratively to support patients in choosing, setting, and working towards meeting goals, helping to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.
Our team is committed to fostering an environment that promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities, both in-house and in collaboration with local universities. We encourage engagement with regular clinical and managerial supervision to support personal professional growth. An interdisciplinary approach is taken, with clinical supervision facilitated for our Assistant Practitioners.
The successful candidate will be required to manage a complex clinical caseload, providing specialised assessments and rehabilitation for patients following a stroke. The post holder should use assessment skills to inform and manage appropriate discharge plans within inpatient and community settings.
They will have the ability to promote an inter-disciplinary approach to goal setting while maintaining a strong occupational therapy clinical focus. The candidate will work collaboratively with patients, families, and other MDT professionals to inform discharge and MDT planning.
The role includes delegating work appropriately to Therapy Assistants and Assistant Practitioners, both in supervised and semi-supervised environments. The candidate will also facilitate training for patients, their carers, and other MDT members, promoting meaningful engagement with therapy exercises, Activities of Daily Living, and Moving and Handling requirements.
Supporting the Stroke Therapy team in delivering specialised therapy services is essential. The candidate must demonstrate ongoing engagement with Continuing Professional Development activities, in line with HCPC guidelines.
Providing a compassionate, inclusive, and respectful therapy service to all patients and their families is fundamental.
Our services operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—and several community healthcare premises, including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer a range of general hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various consultant-led services. WGH provides general hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions such as minor injuries and illnesses. All hospitals provide outpatient, diagnostic, therapy, day case, and inpatient surgical services, along with community outreach services.
