Prescribing Pharmacist

We have an exciting opportunity available for anexisting prescribing pharmacist whowishes to support & develop further. The position is to cover a maternity period.
You will be able to work flexible hours fromhome (6 permonth) to support NICS monthlyprescribing audits for the AIC and UTC.
Main duties of the job
This will entail monthlyaudits of antibiotic prescribing for UTC areas, and monthly audits ofantibiotic prescribing and high risk medications (e.g. benzodiazepines) forAIC. You will be checking, the indication prescribed for and if in line withNICE guidance, quantity, duration, necessity of prescription and if appropriatewhether this was 1st line choice for treatment. You will be expectedto provide feedback on what suitable alternatives may be and feed this back tothe team. Alongside this bi-annually audits include anti-emetics, quinolones,and gabapentinoids.
You will also review MedicineSafety data provided by the MO team, and highlight any concerns revolvingprescribing and feed this into our Quality Matters, which gets disseminatedevery 2 months. This could be surrounding overprescribing high costmedications, branded drugs and OTC preparations as recent examples.
You will help interpret the monthly SurreyHeartlands prescribing data, be able to feedback to clinicians on prescribing,ACP prescribing audits and meetings.
The post holder will also be required to helpidentify MHRA alerts and disseminate these tothe wider team, as well as contributing to the Quality matters with any prescribingupdates and learnings.
You will have the opportunity to support withnew PGD design, implementation and meetings.

Job summary:
The post holder will bean experienced pharmacist with an independent prescribing qualification whoacts within their professional boundaries as part of a multidisciplinaryteam. They will be able to workcollaboratively with all members of the multi-professional team to help resolvemedication related issues and work to improve the quality and safety of careoffered to the registered patients in the locality of North West Surrey. This is a non-patient facing role.
This will entail monthly audits of antibioticprescribing for UTC areas, and monthly audits of antibiotic prescribing andhigh risk medications (e.g. benzodiazepines) for AIC. Qualifications and Training
ARegistered Clinical Pharmacist to be able to practice and prescribe safelyand effectively in a primary care setting (for example, the CPPE ClinicalPharmacist training pathways)
MandatoryRegistration with General Pharmaceutical Council
Membershipof the Royal
Pharmaceutical Society
Extensiveknowledge of medicines optimisation
Mastersdegree in pharmacy (M. Pharm) or equivalent.
Independentprescriber or working towards/intent of gaining independent prescribingqualification
Membershipof the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Skills, Knowledge, and experience
Understandingof the principles of evidence-based healthcare.
Anappreciation of the nature of GPs and general practices
Anappreciation of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rationalprescribing and strategies for improving prescribing
