Join Smile Together, a growing, forward-thinking dental company, as we expand into Gloucester with a brand-new, purpose-built clinic designed to improve access to NHS dentistry for the local community. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting new clinic from the very beginning.
We are looking for caring, motivated Dental Nurses to join our friendly, patient-focused team. You will provide high-quality clinical support to our dentists and dental therapists while helping deliver exceptional patient care.

Job responsibilities
JobSummary:
To provide clinical support to dentists and therapists, ensuring the effective and safe delivery of high-quality dental care. The role also involves maintaining compliance with professional and regulatory standards while supporting efficient practice operations.
Travel to provide cover at other clinic allocations within Smile Together will be required on occasions.

Working in Accordance with GDC Dental Standards and CQC Regulations
As a General Dental Council (GDC) registered professional, the post holder must:
Adhere to GDC Standards for the Dental Team, ensuring ethical and effective patient care.
Maintain full GDC registration without conditions.
Uphold clinical governance, infection control (HTM 01‑05), and professional conduct standards.
Commitment to Patient Experience
Recognise and demonstrate an understanding of the different journeys a patient will experience depending on their treatment needs and the service being provided to them.
Provide clear, professional communication to patients about their treatment.
Adapt care to individual patient needs, ensuring a supportive clinical environment.
Provide support and reassurance to patients undergoing dental procedures.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality in line with GDPR, GDC, and NHS regulations.
Ensure secure handling and accurate recording of patient data.
Prevent unauthorised access to patient information, adhering to information governance policies.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide chairside assistance and anticipate clinician needs. Assist the dentist during clinical procedures and make independent judgments with regard to equipment, instruments and materials.
Provide clinical support for clinicians within a surgery setting, and give appropriate pre‑treatment and post‑treatment advice to patients.
Maintain infection control and follow HTM 01‑05 guidance.
Assist in managing medical emergencies and follow safety protocols.
Monitor and maintain clinical stock control.
Accurately record patient data, filing and archiving patient records.
Support clinical and professional support colleagues in service improvement and organisational change and development.
Provide reception cover when required, ensuring accurate appointment booking and professional patient interactions.
Maintain accurate data entry while upholding confidentiality.
Support the training of Foundation Dental Nurses and participate in the recruitment and onboarding of trainees.
Contribute to service improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Professional Development
Be responsible for safe working and practice on a day‑to‑day basis in sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work area, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the SmileTogether incident reporting procedure.
Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) via the Smile Together Training Academy and Perform appraisal system.
Actively engage with Smile Together teams and participate in audit activities, planning and development sessions, and in‑house meetings.
Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Practice Managers and SmileTogether Management Team.
Professional Conduct & Organisational Commitment
Act as a positive ambassador for Smile Together, promoting its vision, mission, and values.
Support Smile Together's social enterprise objectives, contributing to community oral health initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NEBDN National Certificate in Dental Nursing, NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing (DN) or equivalent
* Full registration with the General Dental Council
* Post qualification experience, minimum 2 years
Knowledge and Skills
* Able to work effectively as part of a team and support the needs of colleagues whilst being able to work independently using own initiative
* Familiarity with NHS dental services regulations and knowledge / acceptance of NHS / local policies and guidelines
* Knowledge of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and NHS Confidentiality Guidelines (e.g. Caldicott) and their implications
* Knowledge of systems of care provision and current health and safety regulations including adherence to COSHH guidelines and ionising radiation regulations, and compliance with HTM 01 05 infection control procedures
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and non‑verbal)
Experience
* Competency in the common aspects of dental nursing and experience of a wide range of dental procedures acquired through training and clinical experience
* Experience of mentoring newly qualified Dental Nurses and or student Dental Nurses
* Experience in the recruitment of Dental Nurses
