Hinkley Point C is the UK’s first new build nuclear power station in a generation that is critical to the UK NetZero targets.

Summary of Role:
As an Electrical Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing competitive and accurate cost estimates for electrical building services projects. This includes analysing drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive tender submissions. You will liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure pricing accuracy, identify cost risks and opportunities, and contribute to the successful delivery of quality tender documentation. Your expertise will support the company’s goals in securing new business and maintaining high standards of compliance and professionalism in the estimating process.
Key responsibilities:
Tender Preparation:
1. Review all tender documentation (drawings, specifications, schedules), identifying any missing or additional requirements.
2. Thoroughly study all documents to ensure full coverage of the estimate.
3. Print and organize necessary documents.
4. Attend internal and external meetings as needed; conduct site visits to assess project scope.
5. Maintain accurate filing and records of all tenders.
Enquiries:
6. Coordinate with the bid team to create an enquiry register for subcontractors, suppliers, and wholesalers.
7. Prepare and distribute enquiry documents, ensuring a minimum of three quotes are received per package.
8. Track responses, analyze for compliance, and maintain a detailed record on the enquiry register.
9. Score subcontractor quotes post-submission for evaluation purposes.
Take-Off, Estimation, Risk & Opportunity:
10. Perform detailed and accurate take-offs from drawings and schedules.
11. Enter costs, labour, and subcontractor information into the estimating system.
12. Validate all data including material prices, labour hours, discounts, and multipliers.
13. Complete cost risk registers and value engineering (VE) schedules.
14. Ensure correct representation of mechanical and electrical interfaces such as BMS and control wiring.
Tender Review:
15. Participate in review meetings with the Estimating Manager and Directors.
16. Lead discussions around the project’s risk register and potential opportunities.
17. Update estimates based on decisions from review meetings.
18. Prepare authorization sheets for governance and settlements.
Tender Submission:
19. Finalize and cross-check tender summaries and authorisation sheets.
20. Draft clarification and exclusion lists for inclusion in submission documentation.
21. Support bid writers with technical inputs as needed.
22. Attend post-tender meetings and maintain tender tracker records.
23. Archive lost or inactive tenders; ensure all tender documentation is in line with potential contracts.
Continuous Development:
24. Stay current with industry regulations, codes, and best practices in electrical building services.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
25. Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator within the building services or construction sector.
26. Strong understanding of MEP systems, with specific focus on electrical installations and services.
27. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
28. Competency with estimating software and Excel; experience using MCA systems is advantageous.
29. Familiarity with procurement processes, tender analysis, and contract documentation.
30. Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail.
31. Strong communication and negotiation skills for engaging with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
32. Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field preferred.
33. Site experience or hands-on electrical background is an advantage.
Building Services Experience:
34. Knowledge of key electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, security, access control, and data systems.
35. Understanding of integrated mechanical and electrical systems, including BMS and control interfaces.
36. Experience working on commercial, industrial, or public sector projects.
37. Awareness of energy-efficient solutions and value engineering practices in building services design and delivery.
