The role
The Ophthalmic Technician will work as part of our multi professional team supporting Registered Nurses to deliver high quality, person-centred, compassionate care.
You will demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of the team and provide support and guidance to less experienced staff and learners within the clinical environment as required.
Responsibilities include:
1. Communicating effectively with patients/residents, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team
2. Interviewing patients to learn and record their symptoms
3. Conducting preliminary eye examinations and tests
4. Evaluating test results and participating in diagnosis discussions
5. Assisting ophthalmologists during eye surgery and procedures
6. Administering medication and topical treatments
7. Ensuring patients understand their medication and procedures
8. Updating and maintaining patients' medical records
9. Cleaning and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment
What you'll bring with you
10. 2 plus years working as an OT in an eye hospital or equivalent
11. Educated to A Level or above
12. Ophthalmic Medical Technicians Introduction Course
13. Well-developed IT skills
14. Excellent communication, interpersonal, negotiating and influencing skills
