What's involved with this role: Mechanical Engineer JM 95027A131025 £15.85 per hour PAYE 37 hours per week Contract length: 6 months with possible extension Location: Stafford, West Midlands Our client is looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who is proficient in a fully hands-on role maintaining and refurbishing a diverse range of equipment. We’re looking for skilled professionals to join our client's engineering team, working on everything from refuelling units to maintenance vehicles and hydraulic systems. You’ll bring proven technical expertise and play a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our Ground Support Equipment. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in mechanical survey, inspection, repair, and maintenance, supported by a strong technical background in vehicles, engines—whether petrol, diesel, or marine—or hydraulic systems. You will be confident in using engineering documentation, software, and reporting systems, and will either hold or be eligible for EngTech registration in line with UK-SPEC standards. A Level 4 qualification or advanced/higher apprenticeship is preferred, though a Level 3 qualification combined with a recognised engineering apprenticeship and relevant industry experience will also be considered. The Role: Carry out survey, inspection, repair, and refurbishment of Ground Support Equipment. Diagnose and resolve faults on a wide variety of industrial and mechanical systems. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on maintenance and engineering practices. Ensure all work meets stringent safety, quality, and performance standards. Contribute to continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives within the workshop. Use engineering software and documentation systems to accurately record and track work. Essential Requirements: Demonstrable experience in mechanical survey, inspection, repair, and maintenance. Strong technical background with vehicles, engines (petrol/diesel/marine), or hydraulic systems. Confident using engineering documentation, software, and reporting systems. Holds or is eligible for EngTech registration (in accordance with UK-SPEC). Holds a Level 4 qualification or advanced/higher apprenticeship, or a Level 3 qualification with a recognised engineering apprenticeship and relevant experience. A team player with a commitment to safety, quality, and high performance. Experience within defence, automotive, aviation support, or heavy engineering sectors is desirable (e.g. backgrounds such as RAF trade group 5, Babcock, or similar).
