Northern Trust, a Fortune 500 company, is a globally recognized financial institution with a long history of service, expertise, and integrity. The Data Analyst will join the First Line of Defence (1LOD) AML/KYC function and report to the Head of AML/KYC Program Management – 1LOD, within the COO office. The role focuses on analyzing financial crime data to provide insights for management and risk monitoring, and on interpreting data from the AML/KYC system to support tactical and strategic decisions.

The position involves preparing reports, collaborating with stakeholders, and participating in data planning, design and workflow configuration across the enterprise.


Key Responsibilities

* Analysis and Modelling: Lead KYC data analysis to identify trends, gaps, and develop a reporting cadence to support decision-making and risk monitoring. Provide recommendations to improve data completeness and remediation efforts.
* Data Management & Quality: Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency through cleaning, validation, and data governance practices; address data-related issues and drive continuous improvement.
* Data Governance and Quality Assurance: Implement data quality controls and apply data management best practices.
* Performance Monitoring: Develop and monitor KPIs and KRIs aligned with enterprise risk appetite. Prepare clear financial crime reports, dashboards, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.


Data Mining Skills

* Data Preprocessing: Cleaning and preparing data for analysis, handling missing values and outliers.
* Pattern Recognition: Identify trends, patterns and anomalies in large datasets.
* Data Warehousing: Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools for efficient storage and retrieval.


Metric Reporting Skills

* KPI Development: Define and track KPIs relevant to business objectives.
* Reporting Tools: Proficiency with Power BI or Tableau for dashboards and reports.
* Data Interpretations: Translate data trends into actionable insights for stakeholders.
* Automation: Knowledge of automating reporting with Python scripts or Excel macros.
* Data Governance: Understand data governance to ensure quality and compliance in reporting.


Qualifications/Skills

* College/university degree and/or relevant proven work experience.
* Prior AML or KYC experience; experience in a management reporting role is a plus.
* Advanced knowledge of AML/KYC/financial crimes regulations and processes for data-driven decisions.
* Ability to manage several projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
* Comfort manipulating large datasets from disparate sources.
* Experience with Actimize and other KYC systems is beneficial.
* Results-oriented, organized, and collaborative team player with strong work ethic and flexibility to work extended hours when needed.
* Ability to interact with internal stakeholders at all levels and across multiple lines of business.
* Attention to detail and Statistical Analysis skills; familiarity with Python or R for data manipulation is a plus.
* Knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, or Excel for data visualization.
* Transformation mindset and experience in consolidating disparate teams to create one Center of Expertise.
