Workshop Manager

The post holder will provide a timely, safe, efficient and cost‑effective estates operational and maintenance service. Reporting to the Head of Estates, the role includes line management of all Team Leaders and Estates maintenance personnel.
As a specialist in Engineering & Building Services, responsibilities include ensuring reliability of engineering infrastructure, systems and equipment, developing relationships with Facility and Estates managers, and participating as a member of the Projects Team.
Main duties
* Responsible for Electrical, Mechanical and Building services for the Trust.
* Facilitate a quality Estates service responsive to operational needs, ensuring efficiency, effectiveness and highest standards.
* Provide professional technical estates advice to the Engineering Manager, staff, external contractors and consultants.
* Ensure compliance with Statutory Standards, Codes of Practice, Health and Safety Guidance, HTM, COSHH, Building Regulations, NHS directives.
* Ensure engineering maintenance, including contract work, meets appropriate standard; act as Clerk of works and commissioning specialist for site inspections, testing and commissioning.
* Maintain specialist services and equipment used to deliver patient care; instruct authorised personnel on medical gases, theatre air testing, asbestos sampling.
* Monitor and review PPM system and statutory compliance.
* Takes lead in engineering governance, incident/complaints management, risk assessments, register management, Health & Safety (RIDDOR, COSHH, LOLER).
* Oversee minor schemes and Capital Works from design to completion.
* Develop and review staff performance objectives; carry out disciplinary actions as required.
* Maintain and update divisional policies; promote safe working culture.
* Participate on emergency on‑call roster; provide cover to colleagues; assist in ad hoc reports and projects.
* Carry out any other duties as requested.
* Engage in CPD relevant to position.
Person Specification
Experience
* Proven engineering management experience including staff management/supervisory responsibilities.
* Previous experience and understanding of Estates Maintenance.
* Performance and Operational Management experience.
* Knowledge of technical developments, financial procedures and statutory requirements.
Qualifications
* Educated to at least HNC Level or equivalent in an engineering subject.
* Willing to undertake further training appropriate to role.
* Relevant Management Qualification to Diploma level or equivalent.
* AP Electrical (LV & AP Ventilation).
Practical Skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledge of a range of software.

* Able to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
* Good knowledge of IT systems, analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Salary: £49,387 to £56,515 a year, pro rata.
