Overview
Join our team in Essex as a Highway Structures Inspector, where you’ll deliver inspections across the county’s bridges and other structures. Working both independently and within a close-knit team, you’ll help maintain and improve asset information by carrying out Principal, General, and Monitoring Inspections. This hands-on role involves using BridgeStation and a variety of access methods – including on foot, MEWP, boat, and drone – to carry out thorough and accurate inspections.
Responsibilities
* Undertake inspection of highway structures.
* Accurate identification and reporting of defects.
* Immediate reporting of safety defects to line manager.
* Represent Essex Highways in public, and provide feedback to the public on demand.
* Produce well-presented and accurate reports and sketches.
About You / Qualifications
* Full driving licence is essential as the position requires county-wide travel.
* Ability to work across multiple terrain types (e.g., river inverts in water, river banks and embankments, rural/urban locations) and walk up and down steep inclines.
* A degree, HND in Civil or Structural Engineering, or demonstrable equivalent on-the-job learning.
* Good understanding of structural behaviour and detailed knowledge of inspection codes and standards.
* Demonstrable ability to assess risk in relation to highway structures and propose mitigation measures when safety defects are identified.
