Mortgage Underwriter
Assess high-value and complex cases from customers and brokers to make informed underwriting decisions aligned with company policies, procedures, and lending criteria.
1. Evaluate applications, ensuring loans are affordable and sustainable, and provide clear rationale for each decision.
2. Offer mortgage proposals in accordance with service level agreements.
3. Identify potential fraud at all application stages, ensuring timely investigation, escalation, and reporting to mitigate risks.
4. Manage the entire case pipeline, proactively liaising with brokers and third parties to meet SLAs.
5. Coordinate with solicitors to obtain necessary documentation before fund disbursement.
6. Serve as the main contact for intermediaries, addressing general and case-specific queries.
Qualifications and Skills
* Previous mortgage underwriting experience.
* Ability to make positive lending decisions on unusual cases.
* Capable of working under pressure and tight deadlines.
* Experience in customer dealings.
* Strong objection handling and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent planning, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
Desirable Skills
* Experience managing broker relationships.
* Underwriting experience with bridging and term loans.
