Job Description Radiology Consultant (Breast Radiology) Overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated, experienced, and forward-thinking Radiology Consultant (Breast Radiology) to join an NHS Trust in Yorkshire. As part of a leading healthcare organisation, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. This position focuses on breast imaging services, including breast screening, diagnostics, and participation in multidisciplinary pathways such as the one-stop breast clinic. You will be instrumental in improving patient outcomes through early detection and treatment of breast conditions in accordance with NHS standards. Responsibilities Provide expert clinical breast imaging services, including mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI, and image-guided interventional procedures. Collaborate closely with the Breast Screening Programme to deliver high-quality and comprehensive breast cancer screening services, adhering to NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) guidelines. Contribute to the delivery of one-stop breast clinics, ensuring timely and accurate diagnosis whilst maintaining compassionate communication with patients. Participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) discussions and meetings, offering expertise to develop and implement cohesive patient care plans. Supervise, mentor, and support trainees, radiographers, and junior clinicians, contributing to professional development within the department. Support the development and evaluation of diagnostic protocols, ensuring the adoption of innovative and effective practices and procedures. Take an active role in the continuous improvement of service delivery and maintain high standards of clinical governance in collaboration with fellow consultants. Engage in service development projects and contribute to research and audits to advance the standards of breast imaging services. Qualifications Essential: GMC registration with a licence to practise. Completion of training in Diagnostic Radiology (CCT or equivalent) with subspecialty expertise in Breast Imaging. FRCR (or an equivalent international qualification). Comprehensive experience in all areas of breast imaging, including screening, diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and interventional techniques. Strong commitment to patient-centred care and multidisciplinary teamwork. Proven ability to organise and manage workloads effectively, delivering high-quality outcomes efficiently. Desirable: Previous experience within an NHS Breast Screening Programme context. Publications or involvement in research projects related to radiology or breast imaging. Demonstrable leadership skills and experience in implementing service improvements. The NHS Trust is dedicated to supporting diverse career pathways. Day-to-day Conduct and report on breast imaging investigations, including mammograms, breast ultrasounds, breast MRIs, and biopsies. Collaborate with clinicians, radiographers, surgeons, oncologists, and pathologists in multidisciplinary team settings to establish and deliver treatment plans. Participate in and contribute to the training and education of junior staff, trainees, and allied healthcare professionals. Lead and actively engage in quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities. Ensure effective communication and compassionate care for all patients, prioritising clarity and understanding. Engage in audits, research studies, and service improvement planning to continuously enhance the quality and accessibility of breast imaging services. Attend departmental and professional development meetings to stay informed on advancements and innovation in breast radiology.
