Contract Type: Fixed-Term Apprenticeship, Full-time for 40 months

Salary: £22,950

Join us as an apprentice at the BBC to kick-start your career. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with one of our learning providers.

As an apprentice within our team, you will be at the heart of the BBC s digital first world, developing and maintaining the systems that audiences rely on every day. Your code will help deliver BBC services across iPlayer, Sounds, BBC Sport, News, and more.

* You will learn to handle the massive digital challenge of running services that must be fast, reliable, and available 24/7.
* You will work with world class software engineers to evolve the platform and keep BBC at the forefront of digital media.

You’ll join the team and learn agile practices, automated testing, and how to integrate software with monitoring and support tools. You will work on real projects powering BBC products and services, supported by a dedicated buddy, an experienced manager and a scheme specialist.


YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Software Engineering apprentice (SED26), you will:

* Gain hands-on experience in the BBC’s software engineering teams responsible for TV, audio, online, and digital platforms.
* Develop understanding of BBC apps and websites from analysis to support.
* Apply software engineering principles across the solution development life cycle, including secure coding and data considerations.
* Ensure quality and reliability through testing and quality control practices.
* Explore troubleshooting considerations with team guidance.
* Contribute to complex projects aligned with the BBC’s Digital First strategy, from inception to delivery.
* Study for an industry-recognised apprenticeship qualification, on and off the job.

YOUR SKILLS AND ELIGIBILITY

* Passion for coding
* Interest in AI and Machine Learning technologies
* Excellent organisational, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
* Ability to manage multiple deadlines
* Calm and focused approach to changing circumstances
* Keen interest in the BBC and how people consume content
* Self-starter, flexible and adaptable

This scheme is aimed at non-graduates. If you already have a degree, consider other BBC roles or apprenticeship schemes.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:

* Be 18 years old or over by September 2026
* Have lived in the UK continuously for the last 3 years prior to start
* Be legally eligible to work full-time in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship
* Not currently be enrolled in another apprenticeship programme
* Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level

* Have maths and English GCSE at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
* Have some experience of coding and/or software engineering is desirable. A basic coding test will form part of the assessment.
