As Second in Department, you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Science in leading and developing the department, ensuring all students have the opportunity to excel in science. Key Responsibilities: Curriculum Development: Work collaboratively with the Head of Science to develop a stimulating and challenging science curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum, departmental vision, and latest advancements in science education. Oversee the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment in science across all key stages. Identify and implement innovative teaching and learning strategies to enhance student engagement and scientific understanding. Departmental Leadership: Support the Head of Science in leading the department, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for all science teachers. Mentor and coach less experienced colleagues, promoting professional development within the department. Manage departmental resources effectively, ensuring efficient use of budget and facilities. Teaching and Learning: Teach a reduced timetable of engaging and stimulating science lessons, demonstrating strong subject knowledge and pedagogical skills. Contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality science lessons across all key stages. Utilize effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress and inform future teaching. External Relations: Maintain strong links with external science societies and organizations to enrich the curriculum and provide students with wider learning opportunities. Strategic Planning: Assist the Head of Science in developing and implementing the department's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the school's overall goals. The Ideal Candidate: A qualified science teacher with a minimum of 5 years’ successful teaching experience, including significant leadership experience within a science department. A proven track record of raising standards in science and a demonstrable passion for the subject. Excellent subject knowledge and a commitment to staying abreast of current trends and developments in science education. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire colleagues. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
