2 Month Contract With A Local Authority


Job Purpose

To provide advanced occupational therapy services to people of all ages with physical disabilities in both community and hospital settings. The post holder will undertake complex assessments, recommend appropriate interventions including specialist equipment and adaptations, and provide professional guidance and supervision to other staff.




Key Responsibilities

* Undertake functional and complex assessments for children and adults with physical disabilities.

* Assess for major adaptations to meet complex needs and recommend aids to daily living, care packages, and minor/major adaptations as appropriate.

* Demonstrate expertise in specialist equipment to promote independence for service users.

* Make sound clinical judgements and deliver evidence-based interventions.

* Maintain accurate, timely, and clear professional records.

* Provide supervision and professional support to staff of varying grades, including Student Occupational Therapists and apprentices.

* Deliver training and coaching to staff in a range of formats tailored to different learning styles.

* Actively promote the role of Occupational Therapy within the workplace.

* Work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and challenge appropriately while maintaining positive working relationships.

* Maintain professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

* Undertake specialist professional development as appropriate to the post.

* Demonstrate knowledge of health and social care legislation, health and safety, risk management, and their implications for practice.

* Effectively communicate complex and sensitive information verbally and in writing.

* Demonstrate strong IT skills, including Office applications, emails, and electronic case notes.

* Plan, prioritise, and organise workload effectively under pressure.

* Undertake moving and handling of service users and equipment safely.

* Access all areas of service users’ properties to complete full assessments.

* Hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle insured for business purposes, or make efficient travel arrangements.



Requirements

* Working with children and adults with physical disabilities in community or hospital settings.

* Undertaking functional assessments in a community setting (desirable).

* Conducting complex paediatric assessments.

* Knowledge of specialist equipment to meet complex needs for children and adults.

* Ability to make sound clinical judgements and appropriate recommendations (aids, adaptations, care packages).

* Delivering training/coaching to staff of various grades.

* Multi-disciplinary working and ability to challenge appropriately while maintaining good working relationships.

* Supervisory responsibility for staff including students and apprentices.

* Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.

* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) with evidence of CPD.

* Willingness to undertake specialist professional development in line with CPD requirements.

* Effective verbal and written communication, including recording professional activity clearly.

* IT skills: Office package, Word, Excel, email, electronic case notes.

* Ability to manage conflict and solve problems.

* Time management, planning, prioritising, and working under pressure.

* Moving and handling of people and equipment safely.

* Knowledge of Equality & Diversity issues.

* Flexible and positive approach to workplace change and working hours.

* Self-motivated, proactive, and demonstrates problem-solving skills.

* Able to uphold the Directorate’s values and principles in all working relationships.
