Job Summary
Are you an experienced child and adolescent mental health practitioner looking for an exciting opportunity to make a positive difference in the mental health of children and young people aged four to eighteen years? Do you have the ability to both deliver high‑quality interventions and develop the skills and knowledge of universal child practitioners in child and adolescent mental health?
If so, we are looking for a Primary Mental Health Worker to support the delivery of Gateshead’s innovative and creative targeted Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (Getting Help). This multi‑disciplinary team delivers evidence‑based interventions for children, young people and their families who present with a wide range of mental health difficulties.
Main Duties
* Provide Getting Help Mental Health interventions to children and young people.
* Directly deliver evidence‑based, outcome‑focused standards of care to children, young people and families and offer high‑quality training, consultation and support to other children’s service providers.
* Act as a resource for all multidisciplinary team members, stay up‑to‑date with research literature and practice guidance, and provide expert advice on mental health for targeted groups.
* Deliver the service from a community base as part of an agreed model of multi‑agency CYPMH provision.
* Assist senior management in leading, motivating and supporting the team through supervision, role‑modeling and clinical expertise.
* Uphold the Trust’s vision, values and behaviours.
* Promote a positive image of children and young people with mental health conditions and of the specialist service area and the wider Trust.
Qualifications and Training
* Core professional qualification and registration (e.g., Nursing, Social Work, B.Ed/PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status, O.T.) or appropriate professional qualification and registration/accreditation in therapeutic training such as CBT, IPT‑A, EMDR, Counselling for Depression, etc.
* Additional qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, therapeutic training or other relevant area, or significant experience supporting the mental health needs of children, young people and families.
* Experience of working within a community context.
* Knowledge and experience of safeguarding and the promotion of welfare in children.
* Good IT skills and a valid driver’s licence.

Essential
* Ability to complete comprehensive mental health assessments, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care packages for children, young people and their families.
* Skilled in delivering relevant therapeutic interventions including individual, family and group work.
* Role model in values, attitudes and behaviours in line with NHS organisational framework.
* Ability to engage vulnerable and hard‑to‑reach groups.
* Experience working at the interface between universal and specialist children’s service provision.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Excellent time and caseload management.
Desirable
* Skill in delivering clinical and caseload supervision.
* Proven ability to design and deliver training to a broad range of professionals.
* Ability to offer consultation and advice to a broad range of professionals and co‑operate to deliver joint interventions.
* Experience supervising professional colleagues from non‑specialist backgrounds.
* Experience in research or audit, and within primary care settings.
* Accreditation with a relevant therapeutic body.
