DevOps Engineer
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £50,000 – £80,000
The opportunity
Our client is a newly formed technology and consulting venture backed by a global management consultancy and a leading alternative investment firm. Based in the heart of Newcastle city centre, the business is building high-performance engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable platforms for demanding Financial Services environments.
This is a hands-on DevOps role for someone who wants ownership, influence, and technical depth. You will sit at the centre of software delivery, enabling engineering teams to move fast without compromising reliability, security, or quality.
What you will be doing
* Automate infrastructure and environments to support modern software delivery.
* Own, manage, and evolve CI pipelines and associated tooling.
* Build and maintain monitoring, alerting, and diagnostic capabilities.
* Deliver automation that improves developer productivity and operational resilience.
* Work closely with software engineers to embed DevOps practices into everyday delivery.
* Challenge existing processes and tooling where they limit outcomes.
What makes a strong profile
* Strong scripting experience using PowerShell or similar languages.
* Background in software development, or the ability to code, using C#, Java, or Python.
* Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
* Practical experience with containerisation using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes or Docker Swarm.
* Experience implementing monitoring and observability using tools such as ELK or Grafana.
* CI/CD experience, including tools such as TeamCity.
* Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server.
* Confident administering both Windows and Linux environments.
* Clear communicator, comfortable working with engineers and stakeholders.
* Financial Services experience is useful but not essential.
* A minimum 2.1 degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline from a leading UK university.
Additional experience that is useful
* Atlassian tooling including Bitbucket and JIRA.
* Artifact management using tools such as Artifactory.
* Deployment tooling such as Octopus Deploy.
* Static analysis platforms such as SonarQube.
* Enterprise scheduling tools such as Control-M.
* Cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, or GCP.
* Virtualisation and storage technologies such as VMware vSphere and SANs.
Why join
* Responsibility and trust from day one, with genuine ownership of core platforms.
* Work on systems that support live, high-stakes workloads rather than internal tooling.
* Collaborate with high-calibre engineers in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding environment.
* Gain exposure to how financial markets and investment firms operate in practice.
This role suits a DevOps Engineer who wants to be close to delivery, close to engineering teams, and close to impact. You will own the platforms that enable software to be built, tested, and deployed reliably, while developing strong technical judgement in a demanding environment.
