Job overview


We are currently looking to recruit a Substantive Specialist Paediatrician at Epsom General Hospital, Epsom, Surrey, to help deliver our service in the north of Surrey.

The successful applicant will play a crucial role in ensuring the team continues to deliver a high quality paediatric service.

As an organisation we are committed to develop our services in a collaborative manner with the local authorities, in ways that best suit the needs of our patients.

The post holder will join a team of 20 Paediatric Consultants along with junior and middle grade doctors on rotation.


Main duties of the job


This post holder will have a hybrid role including out of hours commitment to the middle-grade paediatric rota for acute paediatrics and level 1 SCBU, this currently includes one long day per week and one day shift 1:3 weekends. Their acute role during the normal working week will be focused on ambulatory care provided on the day care unit. They will also have a role supporting the development of this unit including leading on clinical governance projects to improve patient pathways.

The post holder will also provide a weekly clinic which alternates between general paediatric and community paediatrics (neurodevelopment and ADHD), it would be expected that they have the experience and capacity to work autonomously.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities


The principal duty of this post is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients.

1. To, at all times, comply with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time.

2. To ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.

3. To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.

4. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.

5. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).

6. To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.

7. To be responsible for the clinical management of out-patients under your care.


Clinical Duties:


1. The post holder will deliver general paediatric and community paediatric clinics including neurodevelopmental and ADHD. The clinics will mainly be held at Epsom General Hospital within the children's outpatient department, but the post holder could be required to work at other sites if required.

2. The post holder will support the paediatric medical day unit providing clinical input and to work collaboratively with nursing leads to deliver on service development.

3. The post holder will support the middle grade rota for acute paediatrics and neonates including an out of hours commitment.

4. The post holder will be responsible for communication relating to monthly joint renal/urology/radiology meetings
