Solicitor (Adult Social Care and Education)

PAY SCALE: Grade and SCP: Band 13, SCP 45-49
£48,710- £52,805

CONTRACT: PERMANENT - 32 hours

LOCATION: Hybrid / Shropshire Council Head Office in Shrewsbury

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity within Legal, Governance & Planning for a permanent role for a lawyer who specialises in or wishes to develop a career in Adult Social Care and Education legal work. We are recruiting a solicitor, barrister, or FILEX to join our busy, friendly, and motivated Adult Social Care legal team.

The main purpose of the role is to provide legal advice and representation to Adult Social Care and advise on duties under the Care Act 2014, COP, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Ordinary Residence, and Direct Payments. Knowledge of Education and SEND law is desirable.

The successful candidate will manage their own caseload and conduct advocacy when required.

12 months post-qualification experience in Adult Social Care law is desirable. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, think quickly, and have excellent communication skills.


About you

The successful applicant will handle a broad caseload of Adult Social Care legal work, both within and outside the court arena. They should be an excellent communicator, capable of working independently and as part of a team, with strong client care skills. Managing a full caseload and prioritising conflicting deadlines are essential.

Knowledge of Education and SEND law is desirable.

This role involves occasional office work with a requirement to be physically present in Shropshire for a few days each month. The role also involves travel to meetings within the county and to court centres across the West Midlands and occasionally beyond.
