Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term
Salary: £90 – £110 per day (Experience dependent)
Start Date: ASAP
Are you a resilient and relatable individual with a passion for transforming the lives of young people? Do you have the strength of character to mentor students who have become disengaged from mainstream education?
A vibrant secondary school in Westminster is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to work specifically with students who require additional support to manage their emotions and conduct within the classroom. This is more than just a support role—it is an opportunity to be a consistent, positive influence in a young person's life.
The Role
You will work closely with the SENCO and the Pastoral Lead to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
* 1-to-1 Mentoring: Deliver bespoke mentoring sessions to students at risk of exclusion, helping them develop coping mechanisms and conflict-resolution skills.
* Classroom Integration: Support students within the classroom to stay on task, acting as a de-escalator during moments of crisis.
* Restorative Justice: Facilitate restorative conversations between students and staff to repair relationships and promote a positive school culture.
* Progress Tracking: Maintain detailed logs of student behavior and emotional wellbeing, contributing to Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
The Candidate
* Experience: Backgrounds in Youth Work, Sports Coaching, Psychology, or Military/Police service are highly valued. Previous experience with SEMH or ASD is a plus.
* Resilience: The ability to remain calm, objective, and professional when faced with challenging behavior or verbal aggression.
* Communication: A natural ability to build rapport with "hard-to-reach" teenagers while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Commitment: A "never-give-up" attitude toward student progress—you understand that change doesn't happen overnight.
Why Westminster?
* Unbeatable Access: Located in the heart of London, easily reachable via the Jubilee, District, and Circle lines.
* High-Level Training: Access to specialized CPD, including Team-Teach or Step-Up (de-escalation training).
* Inclusive Environment: Work in a school that prioritizes student wellbeing and restorative practice over punitive measures.
* Career Progression: An ideal stepping stone for those looking to move into Educational Psychology, Social Work, or specialized SEN Teaching.
