University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. Please see below for a detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated pharmacist to join the medication safety team. A 1-year part-time opportunity is available to deputise for the Trust Medicines Safety Officer (MSO) and develop your teaching skills.

This will provide opportunities to direct and implement trust-wide change to improve medicines safety. Working closely with the Consultant Pharmacist for Medicines Safety, you will develop your leadership skills and put them into practice. Chairing the Trust Medicines safety group and attending the Drugs Committee will require an organised and methodical approach.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. Personalizing your application to highlight your skills and experiences is crucial. Relying heavily on generic content may reduce your chances of success.

At UHS we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment, supporting your work-life balance. We value diversity and are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

As deputy MSO, you will focus on improving reporting and learning in medicines safety, especially in prescribing. You will provide feedback to prescribers, support reflection, and identify strategies to enhance medication safety.

As chair of the medicines safety group, you will lead discussions on safety topics, ensuring all voices are heard and consensus is reached. You will also participate in regional and national medicines safety networks.

You will manage and support prescribing training for the University of Southampton Medical School, planning educational sessions and applying your knowledge of prescribing errors into the curriculum.
