Overview
Social Worker (Multi-Agency Referral Unit) – two full-time vacancies and one 0.4 FTE vacancy in Cornwall. MARU is the multi‑agency front door for children’s services, co‑located with police, housing, health and early help colleagues, providing a seamless and integrated offer to children and families.
The Role
Join a vibrant, committed and supportive MARU team and work at the front door of children’s services. You will be well supported in your professional development and progression opportunities as Cornwall moves to a new Family Help model of working. This is a public/customer-facing role and requires eligibility under the statutory English language requirements for public sector workers. The role involves varied and skilful work as the first point of call for vulnerable children and their families in Cornwall.
* Multi Agency Referral Unit (MARU) – based in Truro
We are seeking social workers who are enthusiastic about front‑door work and who want to be part of an integrated service dedicated to improving outcomes for children and families.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
You will be a social worker registered with Social Work England and will have:
* Experience in a social care environment
* A proven track record of excellent practice that improves the lives of children
* High‑level written and verbal communication skills to build effective professional relationships with families and other professionals
* Knowledge and understanding of the legislation, models and theories relevant to children’s social work, with evidence of applying learning to practice
* Experience in undertaking assessments and using evidence‑based practice tools to devise, implement and review care plans
If your experience is in another sector, additional support is provided to transition into children and families social work through a supported induction period.
Note: If you qualified as a Social Worker within the last 2 years but have not completed ASYE, you may apply as a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) to access Cornwall’s ASYE programme (adverts for NQSW are separate). Experienced social workers who have taken a career break of 2–10 years with SWE registration expired may contact PSWpracticeeducation@cornwall.gov.uk for consideration.
