Job Purpose To provide high-quality care, support, and guidance to children and young people living in the home, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development in line with their individual care plans. Residential Support Workers play a vital role in creating a nurturing, safe, and structured environment that promotes positive outcomes for children who may have experienced trauma, neglect, or abuse. Key Responsibilities Safeguarding & Care Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in line with legislation, regulations, and safeguarding policies. Provide consistent boundaries, supervision, and support to ensure children feel safe and valued. Contribute to risk assessments, safety planning, and the management of challenging behaviours. Administer medication in line with policy and training. Child-Centred Practice Build trusting relationships with children, acting as a positive role model. Support the development of daily living skills, education, hobbies, and social relationships. Encourage children to engage in activities that build confidence, resilience, and independence. Advocate for the voice of the child in decision-making and care planning. Teamwork & Professional Practice Work as part of a team to deliver high-quality care in line with the homes ethos and Ofsted requirements. Contribute to care planning, reviews, and meetings with social workers, families, and external professionals. Maintain accurate and timely records, reports, and logs. Uphold professional boundaries and confidentiality at all times. Household & Environment Help maintain a warm, clean, and safe home environment. Support with cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other household tasks alongside young people to promote independence. Person Specification Essential Experience of working with children/young people (in residential, education, youth work, or similar). Understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and trauma-informed practice. Strong communication, relationship-building, and resilience skills. Flexibility to work on a shift rota including weekends and sleep-ins. Commitment to professional development and achieving Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (if not already held). Desirable Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (Children and Young People) or equivalent. Experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, emotional difficulties, or special educational needs. Knowledge of Childrens Homes Regulations and Ofsted Inspection Framework.
