Role Description
A rare opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team here at Cardiff. This is an exciting time to join our business as it continues to grow and evolve following a £60 million investment into our Cardiff site. The Cardiff site has the prestigious status of being the Juice Centre of Excellence.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Site Head of Operations, and is part of the SLT, will have responsibility for the planning, resourcing, controlling and coordinating all aspects of engineering and asset management through direct reports, delivering optimum equipment performance efficiency as part of the overall sites performance measures, all implemented and executed within Health, Safety & Environmental legislation, observing site policies and procedures – primarily responsible for upholding Engineering standards across the site. Responsibility for planning, executing and delivering the Capital portfolio plan also falls within this remit. This role will also work closely with Group Engineering and OPEX/Continuous Improvement functions when required, to ensure alignment with the Group Manufacturing philosophy including Asset Management and Capital works on time and in full.
Whilst the role is site based, it forms part of a business which recognises the need for change with major growth ambitions and as part of which is likely to expand both in the UK and overseas. The role will need to be flexible and provide support as required to capitalise on whatever opportunities arise.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the Engineering function to help the site achieve optimal operational efficiency at lowest cost through the delivery of targets against the strategic objectives of the Group Supply function: Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, People.
* Work closely with the Site Head of Operations, Senior Leadership Team, Group Engineering and Projects Team to support the delivery of an agreed manufacturing vision and strategy.
* Support and embrace a culture of safety and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas.
* Develop efficient and effective asset care programs and drive maintenance systems in line with the Group PMS Roadmap & Maturity Matrix site development tool.
* Drive the transition from reactive to proactive maintenance with targets and budgets as defined (e.g., 80% of Engineering work planned, 20% on day-to-day running) and 85% known utilisation of engineers.
* Develop and manage budgets for maintenance and capital expenditure; manage stores and materials to optimise spares, stock accuracy and service levels.
* Lead capital plan management and coordinate capital projects from concept through sign-off, including installation, commissioning, training and performance trials.
* Undertake technical benchmarking to maintain competitive edge and ensure compliance with Group Engineering standards and health & safety regulations.
* Support and uphold engineering standards across the business and ensure compliance at all times.
* Approve capital purchase orders and manage project costs within SAP budgets.
* Drive continuous improvement, GMP, RCA, and other tools to improve plant productivity and reduce waste.
* Develop and lead the engineering team, ensuring appropriate recruitment, training and performance management in line with Princes guidelines.
* Engage with cross-functional stakeholders (Group Engineering, Purchasing, Marketing) to drive site performance and best practices.
Role Requirements
Experience Required:
* Ideally Chartered or working towards a Chartership with a relevant professional engineering institution.
* Graduate or graduate-calibre, with additional engineering qualification; hands-on experience and a proven track record.
* Proven track record of delivering results and managing change in a complex manufacturing environment.
* Operational experience in World Class Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
* Experience in planning and delivering capital investment in production facilities.
* Experience delivering results against financial targets, service levels and safety standards.
* Knowledge of SAP, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience managing people and dealing with Trade Unions.
* Experience operating utilities plant and project management; practical electrical engineering experience including legislation.
* Experience in Automation and the relevant support teams.
