Job Title: Workshop Controller
Location: Cardiff (On-site)
Salary: £36,000+ OTE = £50,000
Hours: Full-time — Monday to Friday (08:00–18:00), every 3rd Saturday (08:30–13:00)

A long-established, family-run automotive group operating multiple franchised dealerships is seeking a highly organised and proactive Workshop Controller. The business manages sales, servicing, and maintenance across several well-known vehicle brands and supports approximately 50 workshop customer visits per day.
The company has a customer-centric culture and operates across telephone, digital, and face-to-face channels. This role plays a key part in ensuring workshop efficiency, customer satisfaction, and operational compliance.
Role Overview
The Workshop Controller will oversee the daily running of a busy workshop, ensuring technicians remain productive, work is completed to high standards, and customers receive timely updates. The role requires excellent organisation, communication, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Performance
* Achieve daily and monthly revenue targets and KPIs.
* Maximise workshop efficiency and minimise technician idle time.
* Ensure all required parts are ordered and available before job dates.
* Communicate daily with customers regarding progress and optional upsell work.
* Work closely with the Booking Advisor to review and manage job card appointments.
Quality & Compliance
* Oversee job card accuracy and ensure all documentation is completed.
* Conduct quality control checks and ensure manufacturer brand compliance.
* Maintain audit readiness across all manufacturer and ISO checks.
* Enforce Health & Safety compliance at all times.
Workshop Operations
* Manage workshop access and security of tools, equipment, and consumables.
* Perform quarterly stock checks on specialist equipment and tooling.
* Maintain workshop cleanliness and operational discipline.
* Oversee valeting quality and subcontractor relationships.
* Ensure adequate staffing during opening hours.
* Support and discipline workshop staff as required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
* Prior experience as a Workshop Controller, Senior Technician, Workshop Supervisor, or Aftersales professional.
* Strong understanding of workshop scheduling, job allocation, and efficiency management.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Strong organisational ability and a methodical approach.
* Confident leading and motivating workshop staff.
* Able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain high standards.
