Offer description

Write a short description of your company, a boilerplate of the business, service or product that you offer. Include your business idea and the target audience. This text is primarily supposed to be descriptive, not selling.

A well-established and high-performing 11–18 secondary school in Warrington is seeking a talented and dedicated Teacher of English to join its thriving English faculty. The school serves a mixed catchment across the town and surrounding Cheshire villages and has built a reputation for strong GCSE results, a calm learning environment and sustained academic improvement.

English is a flagship subject within the school. GCSE outcomes in both English Language and Literature have remained consistently above national averages, and A-Level English Literature is a popular and successful option within the Sixth Form. The department balances academic rigour with creativity, ensuring pupils develop analytical depth alongside confident written and spoken communication.

-----------------------------------

The Role

You will teach English across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to contribute to A-Level provision depending on experience. The curriculum is knowledge-rich and carefully sequenced, combining canonical texts with contemporary literature and a strong focus on extended writing.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering high-quality English lessons with clear structure and purpose
• Preparing students thoroughly for GCSE examinations
• Contributing to shared planning and curriculum refinement
• Supporting literacy initiatives across the wider school
• Participating in enrichment activities such as debating, theatre visits or creative writing clubs

The school values teachers who create purposeful classrooms built on high expectations and strong relationships.

-----------------------------------

The English Department

The English faculty is experienced, collaborative and academically ambitious. Schemes of work are centrally planned but allow for professional autonomy and creativity in delivery.

Department strengths include:

• Dedicated English classrooms within a central teaching block
• Structured revision and mock examination frameworks
• A well-stocked library and whole-school reading programme
• Regular moderation meetings to ensure consistency in marking and assessment

Students regularly engage with theatre productions and visiting speakers, reinforcing the department’s emphasis on cultural literacy.

-----------------------------------

The School

Located in Warrington, the school is known for its respectful students, clear behaviour systems and visible leadership. Senior leaders prioritise high standards while maintaining a supportive and manageable working environment.

Facilities include refurbished classrooms, improved IT infrastructure and a modernised Sixth Form centre. Professional development is structured, with clear pathways for subject leadership and career progression.

Staff describe the culture as professional, supportive and academically focused.

-----------------------------------

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will:

• Hold QTS (or equivalent) in English
• Demonstrate strong subject knowledge across Literature and Language
• Have experience teaching GCSE; A-Level desirable
• Deliver structured, engaging lessons with high expectations
• Contribute positively to a collaborative department

Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and confident early career practitioners.

-----------------------------------

What’s On Offer

• Competitive salary aligned to experience
• High-achieving and well-supported English department
• Clear behaviour systems and pastoral support
• Strong CPD and progression opportunities
• A respected Warrington secondary school community

This is an excellent opportunity for an English specialist looking to teach in a school where academic ambition, structure and professional collaboration are genuinely embedded.
