Abertay University is a modern institution with a global outlook, rooted in local and national communities. It has a history of supporting science, industry, and professions through interdisciplinary teaching, research, and knowledge exchange. The university seeks to appoint a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Analytical Biochemistry within the School of Applied Sciences.
The School delivers programs and applied research in food and drink, environment, forensic and biomedical sciences, mental health nursing, counseling, psychology, and sports sciences. Recent growth in research output has been significant, with outstanding results in the latest REF assessment.
The role is part of an NHS Tayside-funded project titled ‘VAPE (VAscular Effects of Passive Exposure),’ led by Prof Jacob George (University of Dundee), Prof Alberto Fiore and Dr Sarah Cottin (Abertay University), and Prof Ed Stephens (University of Saint Andrews). The project involves pilot studies measuring biomarkers in urine and saliva of women and children passively exposed to smoking, vaping, and controls (50 per group). The goal is to identify specific biomarkers for assessing passive vaping effects in larger studies.
The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will assist with experimental design, biological fluid analysis using chromatography techniques (HRMS, LCMSMS), data collection, analysis, and reporting. They will collaborate closely with the research team to ensure timely and effective project completion.
