As a Lifestyle Peer Support Worker, you’ll use your own experiences to inspire hope, empower change and support people to rediscover a healthier, happier life. Please note this is a Bank role, and work will be issued as and when required You’ll be part of our Cornwall Community Rehabilitation Service, working closely with Lifestyle Support Workers and a brilliant multi‑disciplinary therapy team. Together, you’ll help people build confidence, try new activities, reconnect with their communities and create sustainable lifestyle changes. This is a field‑based role covering Cornwall, with admin time based in NHS buildings — and opportunities for some remote working. What you’ll do In this role, you’ll make a real, tangible difference every day. You will: Build trusting, supportive and respectful relationships with service users. Share aspects of your own recovery journey in a safe, boundaried way to inspire hope. Support people 1:1 — for example, helping someone feel confident enough to visit the gym. Co‑facilitate community groups, such as healthy eating sessions or local wellbeing meet‑ups. Work with the therapy team to develop activities that promote healthier lifestyles. Encourage independence, connection and personal growth. Take part in service development, including recruitment and staff induction. Attend MDT meetings and contribute your lived‑experience perspective. Participate in our national peer support network, training, and reflective practice. You’ll also look after your own wellbeing through your personal wellness plan, supported by regular supervision. About the service You’ll be joining a passionate and diverse team supporting people living with long‑term mental illness. The Rethink team is part of Cornwall’s wider CMHT, working alongside: Nurses Physical Health Nurses Occupational Therapists Social Inclusion Workers Psychologists & Psychiatrists Community groups run across Cornwall, so you’ll need to be comfortable travelling independently. What you bring You must have: Lived experience of mental illness and a willingness to share your journey appropriately. A strengths‑based, hopeful approach to supporting others. Compassion, empathy and great communication skills. The ability to plan your work, self‑manage and stay organised. Good IT skills. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle. The ability to coach others and celebrate progress. Flexibility, positivity and a person‑led attitude. It’s also great (but not essential) if you have: Experience working in a changing environment Knowledge of local resources in Cornwall Experience in multi‑disciplinary teams Please note: due to the emotional nature of the role, we ask that applicants have been well for at least 18 months.
