An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Ward 42 Neurology at UHCW as a senior healthcare support worker.
Ward 42 is a 36‑bedded unit comprising three areas responsible primarily for the care of both stroke and neurology patients.
Key responsibilities
* Provide an immunisation and vaccination report from your current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Ensure all patient interactions and observations are communicated to the appropriate healthcare practitioner.
* Undertake agreed clinical and non‑clinical tasks, extending your range following training in defined practices and ensuring referral to the appropriate healthcare practitioner when necessary.
* Demonstrate technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including cannulation, ECG and manual handling of patients.
* Organise your own daily workload, including the use and cleaning of identified medical and non‑medical equipment such as beds and hoists.
* Act as a discharge co‑ordinator responsible to the nurse in charge, supporting patient flow and working alongside the bed capacity manager and the MDT.
* Assist with personal patient care, e.g. bed‑bathing and feeding.
* Process patient property and valuables frequently, ensuring accurate documentation where appropriate.
* Support less experienced members of staff in their orientation to the ward and role, and provide leadership and support to more junior support workers.
* Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient data.
* Support the team in expected and unexpected clinical events that require high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency and clinical need.
* Support staff and patients exposed to difficult situations arising in the clinical area, such as after receipt of bad news or following an unexpected event.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment, ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
* Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
* Act as a supervisor and mentor for new starters to the department.
