SailGP Technologies began as the high performance design, engineering and manufacturing arm of SailGP and has led the way in high-performance applied innovation. Our constantly evolving design, composites engineering, software and data expertise is rooted in decades of experience at the forefront of cutting-edge sail racing. Previously established and located in New Zealand since 2001, SailGP Technologies relocated to Southampton, UK in Spring 2024 at our new state of the art facility. Summary : SailGP Technologies is looking for a dynamic and motivated Manual Machinist/Fabricator/welder to join our high-performance team. This exciting role involves working at our Southampton facility and providing global event support to the Technical Team, reporting to the Machine Shop Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for fabricating and machining components for the state-of-the-art F50 foiling catamarans. You will also provide on-site support for the league from a fully equipped mobile workshop at event locations worldwide. This role requires extensive and frequent travel throughout the season. Our UK facility boasts a brand new machine shop, featuring three Mazak CNC machines, a CMS ARES 5-axis machining center, a manual lathe, a manual milling machine, and TIG welding capabilities. Responsibilities : To attend and manage the mobile Machine Shop at global events Fabrication and machining of components required for the SailGP league, to produce steel, stainless steel, aluminium & titanium components General Engineering and mechanical assistance at events Job-list orientated during regattas General overview of technical aspects of the F50, ensuing the assets remain “one design” Responsible for keeping part inventories and maintaining adequate stock of spares at all times Overall responsibility for mobile machine shop setup and packdown, and assisting the wider team with tents and containers as required Assist with launch and retrieval operations and daily on-water tasks when required Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment Responsible for self inspection to ensure all components are 100% correct and inline with standards Organising consumables for fabrication area TIG Welding components Machine components on manual lathe/milling machines Tooling/fixturing for manual machines Machine maintenance Background & Experience: Proven experience in precision fabrication and welding Demonstrated background in marine or high-performance engineering environments Hands-on experience operating manual machining equipment, lathes, mills etc Experience with TIG welding (and ideally MIG) to a high quality in multiple materials (steel, aluminum, titanium) Previous involvement in event based operations desirable Strong understanding of mechanical systems and assemblies, with the ability to repair precision components under time pressure Understanding of tolerance and precious measurements The ability to interpret detailed instructions and engineering drawings Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills, particularly in a high pressure event environment Highly organised with excellent time management skills Experience in conventional and CNC machining is an advantage Attributes: Is driven by delivering quality with a strong sense of pride in their work Effective communication skills, coupled with the ability to work independently or as part of a team Able to problem solve Brave and always ready to embrace the challenge presented Excellent attention to detail Ability to work effectively and thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment Self-starter, action-oriented, resourceful Culturally sensitive and able to effectively work globally A keen interest in engineering design would be beneficial Able to multitask and work under pressure to deliver to deadlines You are expected to work with minimum supervision and may be expected to deal with other duties appropriate to your skill set and ability Able to travel internationally for extended periods, attending a minimum of 10 events per season Location : Southampton, United Kingdom SailGP Technologies is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
