Job Description
The Senior Accountant will play a vital role in Turnitin’s EMEA Accounting Team, providing internal and external financial reporting for EMEA entities. Internal reporting includes management reporting as part of the month‑end close, where this role will handle all expenses. External reporting includes year‑end reporting, and the role will be a key contact for audits and financial statement preparation.
The Senior Accountant will contribute to process improvements to strengthen internal controls and increase efficiencies. The Accounting team works closely with other teams in the Turnitin Financial group, including Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounts Payable, Order to Cash, Tax, and Payroll. This position reports directly to the EMEA Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities
* Maintenance of general ledger and associated accounting of Turnitin’s EMEA entities.
* Preparation of monthly journal entries as part of the month‑end process, primarily covering payroll and accruals.
* Support and review of journal entries relating to other expense postings, including fixed assets, prepayments, cash, intercompany, and accounts payable.
* Preparation of detailed variance analysis reports for management review.
* Support and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigation of reconciling items.
* Work with outsourced accounting providers for preparation of statutory accounts for Turnitin’s EMEA entities.
* Assist in year‑end audits for Turnitin’s EMEA entities.
* Participate in the ongoing development and establishment of accounting policies and procedures.
* Provide support to internal customers including ad‑hoc financial analysis and special projects.
* Work with Turnitin’s Tax team to ensure deliverables of VAT and corporate tax reporting.
* Assist newly acquired entities with adoption of group internal controls and processes.
* Assist in cash management, including cash‑flow forecasting and the setup of intercompany cash transfers.
Qualifications
* Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with accounting & finance experience in a fast‑paced environment.
* 2+ years post‑qualification experience (PQE) or relevant international accounting experience.
* Experience in international accounting and working with third‑party accounting providers.
* Advanced Excel skills and hands‑on exposure to accounting systems (NetSuite preferred).
* Effective communication with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
* Strong written and oral communication skills, along with interpersonal skills and relationship building.
* Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities, and deadlines with minimal supervision.
* Self‑starter and proactive thinker.
