Dayshift Advisers: Working on a 5-week rolling rota covering the hours of 8am – pm Monday – Sunday.
Nightshift Advisers: Working pm – 8am Monday – Sunday on a rotation of 4 shifts on, 4 shifts off. (with additional unsociable hours payment)
As a Tier 2 Substance Misuse Adviser your primary role will be to provide information on all aspects of substance misuse and smoking cessation to the public via telephone helpline - promoting key messages on harm reduction and behaviour change support as defined by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities client.
You will be required to signpost service users to appropriate services for their needs and assist them beyond any barriers in accessing these services. You must be non-judgemental, calm, able to explain complex concerns in a simple and straight forward way and demonstrate a respectful and proactive approach to the needs of those in groups of inclusion.

What do I need to do the role?
4. HNC/HND in a relevant subject related to health/health promotion or Nursing diploma/degree, CQSW/ Diploma Social Work or relevant degree such as: Psychology, Health Science, Social Sciences, Health Promotion, Education or
5. A recognized Counselling diploma
6. A relevant post graduate higher qualification, a MSc in Counselling, Health Education/ Promotion, Public Health
7. Qualification in drugs, alcohol, or tobacco studies/smoking cessation
The aforementioned list is not exhaustive; other relevant qualifications/training and working towards a relevant qualification may be considered.
Those who do not have the above qualifications will be considered if extensive experience and other forms of continued professional development related to substance misuse can be demonstrated.

Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:
8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a confident telephone manner with the ability to engage and build rapport quickly with people to assess their needs in a timely manner
9. Ability to handle the sensitive nature of calls/contacts to the service with empathy, professionalism, and a non-judgemental approach
10. The ability to adhere to a defined remit and work to service and professional boundaries
11. The ability and willingness to work within OHID and Serco policies, procedures and guidelines as directed
12. Ability and willingness to update knowledge and skills with any new developments in guidelines and/or changes to service delivery
13. Ability to handle many calls, web chats, emails, and text messages professionally
Experience:
At least 6 months’ experience of actively working within a role that included the provision of information, advice, and support face to face and/or over the telephone in relation to health, mental health, alcohol, drugs and/or smoking, for example:
