Children’s Community Occupational Therapist
An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to work in our forward thinking and innovative team delivering client centred and occupation- centred care. Based in our friendly team of 3 Physiotherapy and 5 Occupational Therapy staff, you will be part of the Primary Schools Team based at Mile End Hospital. We follow an integrated model of delivering therapy services to children and young people. You will see children with a wide range of developmental difficulties (Physical, Learning and ASD) at homes and in mainstream and special schools. You will also be required to take part in delivering Parent Workshops and trainings.
Clinical supervision, in-service training, quality improvement projects and CPD opportunities will be offered to progress your skill development as a therapist. Main duties of the job
The Community Children's Therapies team provides physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy for children and young people up to the age of 19 in Tower Hamlets. Most of the children and young people we work with have developmental difficulties which often are linked to a medical diagnosis e.g. cerebral palsy or autism. Our services are delivered in clinics, mainstream and special schools, nursery settings, children and family centres and homes. The role of the post holder is to provide a highly specialist and evidence-based Occupational Therapy Service to a specialist caseload of children with complex health and physical needs attending a designated special school as well as mainstream schools. To assist in the provision of day to day management of junior therapists and Therapy Assistants. To educate and train occupational therapy colleagues, other healthcare professionals, educational staff and undergraduate students regarding this case mix. To provide clinical leadership and expertise to the team in risk assessments and take the lead for managing risk. To undertake service developments, leading on key areas with the support of the Clinical lead therapist The post holder will have access to regular support and clinical supervision.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Recognised Degree/Diploma in Occupational therapy
* Registered member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and the Health Professionals Council.
* Attendance at specific and relevant training courses and further developing clinical knowledge in areas related to post.
Experience
* Extensive post graduate experience in the field of children's occupational therapy including children with physical disability and complex needs
* Experience of occupations-focused reflective practice within context of childhood disability
* Experience of supervising of junior staff
* Clinical experience within the NHS
* Experience of working in a community or other setting specialising in children's care
* Experience of multi-agency working
* Experience of service development
* Experience of following child/adult safeguarding guidelines.
* Paediatrics
* Experience of working in the community clinic setting.
* Experience of using coaching to support adult learning.
* Experience of training others or supporting the education of others, including use of virtual platforms to do this.
* Experience in the organisation and presentation of workshops, courses or other training packages.

* HCPC registered
* Evidence of continuing professional development

* Ability to demonstrate an understanding of professional practice issues in the field of children's occupational therapy and new research/evidence.
* Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession
* Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies and professional standards
* Ability to meet the physical demands of the job on a day to day basis

* High standard of spoken and written communication skills in English.
