Our transmission planning organization covers all aspects of planning the transmission system for our subsidiaries in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi, including system analysis, reliability standards, economic evaluations, and industry collaboration. Position Details
We have multiple openings for an Engineer in the TP-Generation & Strategic team.
Team Responsibilities
This team leads transmission planning studies related to generation changes, including new siting, unit retirements, resource planning support, renewable procurement, and interconnection studies. It collaborates closely with resource planning, transmission operations, and external developers.
Job Responsibilities
1. Lead power system modeling and analysis, including:
o Load flow thermal and voltage analysis for generator interconnection and siting studies
o Production Cost modeling
2. Develop system-wide power flow models and assumptions.
3. Coordinate study assumptions and results internally and externally.
4. Develop and evaluate reliable, cost-effective transmission solutions.
5. Present reports and proposals to various management levels.
6. Lead solution teams and initiatives for project feasibility, scope, and timing.
7. Contribute to industry committees and technical research.
8. Support automation and analysis tool development.
Education Requirements
* Bachelor's in engineering (Electrical preferred) from an ABET-accredited school.
* Master's in engineering or business (desirable).
* PE license (desirable).
Work Experience
* Experience in transmission planning and operations (preferred).
* Experience in design, maintenance, protection, and controls (desirable).
* Experience in project management, estimating, and scheduling (desirable).
* Experience in generation/resource planning (desirable).
* Experience in power system modeling and analysis (desirable).
* Experience with generator operations and control system modeling (desirable).
Skills and Knowledge
* Power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, etc.).
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and databases.
* Interest in NERC standards and FERC policies.
* Knowledge of programming languages (Python, C#, Visual Basic.net) and data visualization.
The successful candidate will be based at APC Corporate Headquarters in Birmingham, AL, with a hybrid work schedule.
