Business Insights Data Engineer – Surrey and Sussex Police
Location: Surrey Police Headquarters, Guildford
Role Summary
From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference. It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe. This role focuses on advancing the identification and exploitation of data to enable insights from complex data holdings and support data-informed decision making across the organisation. You will work within a team of data engineers, pipelines, flows and visualisation, and collaborate with force leads in Performance and Research.
Responsibilities
* Utilise skills in Microsoft Fabric, ETL, Python and coding to enable data exploitation and access.
* Provide guidance to Business Intelligence Developers and Strategic Insights Analysts, including IT Technicians and Senior Technicians, ensuring service delivery complies with ICT processes and controls.
* Work with stakeholders to identify needs and represent Corporate Development as an expert advisor to improve processes and systems.
* Collaborate with colleagues across technical areas to understand risks and requirements for integrated solutions.
* Liaise with Information Security to ensure appropriate measures and compliance with standards and policies.
* Support the development of colleagues through technical direction, coaching and knowledge sharing.
* Undertake complex maintenance, support and change work escalated to the team to deliver effective ICT services.
* Monitor key systems support and service provision to ensure reliable and consistent policing operations.
Skills & Experience / Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent experience; proficiency across a wide range of technologies and analytical/problem-solving approaches.
* Experience providing technical oversight and coaching to staff; strong communication to engage stakeholders and build relationships.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, high attention to detail and personal resilience.
* Ability to negotiate and influence, manage expectations, and align with corporate objectives and change delivery principles.
* Knowledge of data acquisition, management and insight within related areas (Intelligence, Information Management, DDaT).
* Knowledge of Police regulations, standards, ICT systems/processes/platforms (desirable).
