This is an exciting opportunity to join Cheshire West and Chester Council’s new Specialist Teaching Team as a Specialist Teacher for Cognition and Learning. This pivotal role supports the inclusion of children and young people with cognition and learning needs across the borough. Demand and complexity of need continues to grow nationally, and Cheshire West is committed to promoting highly inclusive practice in all schools and settings. As a Specialist Teacher, you will work directly with pupils aged 2–18, their families, schools, and partner agencies to ensure access to high-quality education and improved outcomes. You will provide specialist advice, undertake detailed assessments, and deliver tailored programmes to meet individual needs, including those with co-occurring conditions such as ADHD, SEMH, Autism and OCD. The role also involves: Supporting schools to implement effective strategies and deploy resources. Delivering training to build staff confidence and capacity. Liaising with multi-agency partners and contributing to service development. Promoting Quality First Teaching and inclusive approaches aligned with the SEND Code of Practice and Equality Act 2010. The successful candidate will: Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and have substantial experience supporting pupils with SEND. Demonstrate excellent communication and collaborative skills. Have a thorough understanding of SEN legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and inclusive practice. Be proactive, well-organised, and committed to ongoing professional development.
