At Rutherford Briant, we’re partnering with a growing SME business based in Basildon. As the business continues to scale, they are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to take ownership of day-to-day finance, provide commercial insight, and support informed decision-making across the business.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for a Management Accountant who enjoys working in a fast-paced SME environment and being close to operations.

As a Management Accountant, you will:

1. Produce monthly management accounts with clear commentary and variance analysis

2. Own the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations

3. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and cashflow projections, supporting business planning

4. Maintain strong financial controls and ensure accuracy across the ledger

5. Partner closely with directors and operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight

6. Analyse performance, margins, and costs to support profitability and growth

7. Assist with statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external accountants and advisors

8. Support process improvements as the business continues to develop its finance function

As a Management Accountant, you will need:

9. Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar role within an SME environment

10. Strong understanding of management accounting and end-to-end month-end processes

11. Solid balance sheet knowledge and confidence owning reconciliations

12. Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and interpret financial data

13. A proactive, adaptable mindset with the confidence to work autonomously

14. Excellent communication skills, comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders

15. Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), or qualified by experience
