Drilling Supervisor – Central Alliance
Location: Normanton, UK
Reports to the Drilling Manager and provides drilling and operational guidance, support and assistance to drilling crews to ensure safe and effective project delivery.
The Opportunity
The role also involves driving a culture of effective teamwork, with roughly 50% time in the yard improving efficiencies and 50% on site traveling to various locations to upskill and support drilling crews.
Responsibilities
* Serve as first point of call for all drilling staff queries, offering support to deliver safe and profitable jobs. Includes troubleshooting technical drilling challenges, rig and ancillary equipment issues, site/project management queries, personnel/Human Resources queries, with awareness of project budgets to inform daily decisions.
* Prioritise supervision of high‑risk jobs, ensuring safety and knowledge transfer to drill crews.
* Act as Lead Driller on challenging projects when directed by the Drilling Manager; troubleshoot and advise at other sites.
* Rotate across all drill crews to provide training, coaching, and mentoring, enhancing technical drilling knowledge, planning skills, site safety awareness, and operational implementation.
* Feed key operational drilling information to the Drilling Manager to support scheduling of resources.
* Maintain close communication with the fitting team to update maintenance, breakdowns and repair schedules, ensuring compliance with the Planner schedule.
* Support site walk‑overs for challenging jobs to ensure appropriate equipment and staff are resourced.
* Respond swiftly to client needs, delivering a professional and technically sound drilling service that exceeds expectations.
* Conduct safety and site checks/audits, competency assessments and upskilling where appropriate (including risk assessments, method statements, task briefing sheets).
* Support the Drilling Manager with risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
* Assist with coordinating bi‑annual LOLER inspections, certification records and PUWER compliance.
* Help maintain drilling equipment stock levels and checks.
* Approve employee timesheets and expense reports.
* Develop and maintain respectful, professional, high‑performing relationships across the business and with clients.
* Establish a sound understanding of Central Alliance’s and RSK’s ways of working, procedures, guidelines for drilling, logistics, project planning and execution.
* Maintain and develop technical knowledge such as British Standards and industry standards.
About You

* Extensive experience operating various drilling rigs and deep knowledge of drilling methods across the UK.
* Demonstrable experience of scheduling (equipment and staff) and project management (commercial, SHEQ, etc.).
* Commitment to safety and continuous improvement of working practices, with ability to assess site safety and manage diverse teams.
* Competence in data management tools and reporting software, including Microsoft Office; computer literate.
* Excellent literacy, numeracy and computing skills.
* Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
* Excellent time‑management and problem‑solving skills in fast‑moving situations.
* Can‑do attitude, collaborative work ethic and ability to provide timely coaching.
* Willingness to work away from home when required.

* Familiarity with BDA guidelines, liaison with BDA, and management of BDA accreditations.
* Valid Manual Driver’s Licence.
* Knowledge of SHEQ and QAQC best practices.
